DE:VOTED
An immersive mashup over 7 days and 2 cities
Presented as an anchor event of Singapore Art Week 2020, DE:VOTED is a group show consisting of 9 established artists from Singapore and Japan. Over the course of 7 days, audiences watched as the gallery space transformed continuously, with the artists drawing creative influence from one other and adapting spontaneously to the energies and ideas put forth within their environment.
We were commissioned by INSTINC to develop the identity and promotional material for DE:VOTED. As the exhibition’s format was heavily influenced by Allan Kaprow’s ‘Happenings’, we drew reference from the collaterals of his various events held in the 1950s.
Working together with the artists, we prepared an exhibition take-away for the visiting audience filled with a show guide, poster, stickers and art paraphernalia from the 9 artists’ installations. A post-exhibition catalogue was also produced, consisting of hand-bound, french-folded sheets of paper. Reading the catalogue required active participation from the reader—one had to deconstruct the booklet in order to access content hidden within the binding and french-folds. This ritual itself demands devotion and transforms the reader into the tenth and final member of the show.
