DECK is a contemporary institution that nurtures new ideas and thinking in photography arts. Built with the support of the local community, DECK dedicates its space to the development and promotion of visual literacy, serving as a conduit between artists and the public. With curated year-round exhibitions, education programmes and artist residencies, the arts centre champions diversity in the scene, presenting all facets of photography arts to the widest possible audience.

Designing from frame to form
From 2015 to 2018, we worked regularly with the team at DECK to craft unique visual identities for the institution’s various exhibitions. The commissioned identities were guided by two directives: to develop a distinctive visual language authentic to the featured artists, and to explore the communicative power of photography through the complex interplay of text and image.

A journey of graphic collaboration
This collection of work represents a diverse selection of the graphic output produced for DECK during our 4-year run with the space. Ranging from type-driven expressions where images are completely concealed, to photo-driven identities where the works speak for themselves, these projects demonstrate different approaches towards utilising photography in the branding of photography arts.

Through the various identities, we chart the evolution of DECK as a pillar for photography in Singapore, as well as reflect upon our relationship with an art gallery that served as our visual playground for graphic experimentation in the studio’s earlier years.
