DE:VOTED
An immersive mashup over 7 days and 2 cities
Presented as an anchor event of Singapore Art Week 2020, DE:VOTED was a dynamic group show consisting of nine established artists from Singapore and Japan. Over the course of seven days, audiences watched as the gallery space continuously transformed, with artists drawing constant creative influence from one another, spontaneously adapting to the energies and ideas generated within the environment. Commissioned by INSTINC, we developed the identity and promotional materials for this immersive performance exhibition.
Performance and immersion
As the show’s format was heavily influenced by Allan Kaprow’s ‘Happenings’, we drew reference from the collaterals of his various events held in the 1950s to heavily inform our visual direction.
Turning art into a shared experience
Working closely with the artists, we created a unique exhibition takeaway for visitors, which included a show guide, poster, stickers, and art paraphernalia reflecting the nine artists’ installations. In addition, a post-exhibition catalogue consisting of hand-bound, french-folded sheets of paper was also produced. Reading the catalogue required active participation from the reader—one had to deconstruct the booklet in order to access content hidden within the binding and french-folds. This ritual itself demands devotion, effectively transforming the reader into the tenth and final member of the show..
