LASALLE Year in Review
A Journey of Innovation
As Asia’s premier contemporary arts and design institution, LASALLE’s Year in Review (YIR) website stands as a testament to its commitment to cultivating the next generation of globally engaged artists, designers, and creative industry leaders. Beyond its role as a retrospective celebration of the college's achievements and key events, the annual online summation stands as a vibrant showcase of its artistic community's diversity and innovation
In 2020, Practice Theory embarked on a design and development journey of the YIR website, aiming to create a platform that is at once a seamless showcase and interactive highlight reel.
Recognising the need for adaptability, we took the opportunity to create a highly customisable web template to accommodate the ever-evolving visual identity of the YIR. A robust and flexible Content Management System (CMS) was designed to conform to each year’s changing design demands, serving as a neutral container for key visuals, graphics, and varying typography. This dynamic approach allows us to continuously transform the graphic language of the YIR, ensuring a balance between aesthetic transformation and functional integrity.
Beyond the Horizon
Entering AY 2022/2023, LASALLE prepares for its historic merger with NAFA into the University of the Arts Singapore. Amidst the uncertainty of what lies beyond the horizon, the school's identity remains steadfast, rooted in its legacy of creativity and excellence. Serving as a visual testament to this transformative juncture, this year’s YIR concept beckons students to peer into an optimistic yet undefined future.
Through an interactive landscape, viewers are invited to navigate the unveiling of achievements, each revelation a testament to LASALLE's enduring ethos of creative exploration and artistic excellence.
Blooming Resilience
As we transition into a post-remote world, our focus shifted to envisioning a new path forward. Pondering the possibilities borne of societal shifts in AY 2021/2022’s YIR, this turn in narrative echoes that of the organic resilience of nature, inspiring a concept intertwining plant growth with graduate resilience.
Utilising emotive time-lapse imagery of flowers and plants blooming, each scroll unveils a poetic reflection on the past and future, encapsulating the endless cycle of design evolution. Enriched by 3D software that creates a never-ending field of reimagined flowers with unusual textures and materials, what resulted was a YIR that evoked nature's regenerative power through digital innovation.
Collaboration Redefined
This dialogue extended beyond the student body, with AY 2020/2021 expanding the spirit of co-creation while navigating the challenges of remote work necessitated by the pandemic. Dialogue had been inadvertently redefined: how do we continue working together while apart? Drawing inspiration from the unintentional artistry of temperature sticker collages found across campus—products of mandatory COVID check-in points—we crafted a splash page that is both a playful homage and a virtual sticker board documenting user interactions.
In a time of physical distance, it is more important than ever that LASALLE fosters indomitable connectivity and reevaluates expressions of collaboration.
A Canvas of Creativity
Collaboration and co-creation took centre stage at LASALLE’S AY 2019/2020 YIR, with
a visual identity embodying the diverse perspectives of LASALLE's 35 art programmes. Incorporating curated student works and newly commissioned graphics, we formed
unique collages of images overlaid or combined together.
This resulted in the YIR acting as an unorthodox medium for students to comment on the academic year through their creations, initiating critical dialogue and celebrating LASALLE’s defining spirit of interdisciplinary collaboration.
