Whoscall
Reframing Whoscall’s cyber security brand around community-led fraud protection
The Project
Practice Theory partnered with Taiwanese TrustTech firm Gogolook to reposition Whoscall, transforming the East and Southeast Asian anti-scam app from a basic caller identification tool into an empowering community protection platform.
The Brief
Since 2010, Whoscall has built Asia’s largest phone number database. As digital scams grew increasingly sophisticated, the app expanded its features beyond call identification. To drive user engagement across broader demographics, Whoscall needed a refreshed identity that reflected its evolved capabilities and community-driven ethos.
The Approach
Through internal interviews, cultural mapping, and competitor research, we identified Whoscall’s core differentiator: a protective network driven by the four interconnected data pillars of global user reports, AI prediction, institutional partnerships, and public databases. We then established a strategic narrative around collective vigilance, positioning Whoscall as a platform that grows stronger with every user contribution.
The Execution
We updated the iconic Whoscall green and paired it with dynamic tones of blue, purple, and cream. The visual language uses concentric graphic shapes, chat bubble devices and gradient overlays to illustrate the ripple effect of shared reporting, complemented by approachable illustrations that bring a human touch to digital security.
What did we deliver?
- Brand strategy and positioning: Developed a community-centred brand framework highlighting collective vigilance and multi-layered data protection.
- Visual identity system: Created a refreshed colour palette, concentric graphic motifs, and custom illustration guidelines across digital touchpoints.
- Brand identity assets: Built a cohesive visual system and UI guidelines for mobile app interfaces and marketing campaigns.
The Impact
The brand refresh successfully elevated Whoscall’s market standing, transforming perception from a passive scam-blocker to an active, community-powered security network across East and Southeast Asia.
