The Singapore International Photography Festival (SIPF) is a biennial photography festival and a key platform to discover and propel Southeast Asian photographers onto the global stage. It also serves as a much-needed arena for critical thought and academic discussion on photography in Southeast Asia. Practice Theory designed the visual identity, campaign, signage and wayfinding system, and catalogue for the 6th edition of the festival.
Titled Like You, Me, Everybody Else, the 6th SIPF examines the current condition of photography—the indefinite presence of photography on the Internet and social media attests to the democratic nature of the medium, and how it has become an increasingly intimate and personal part of our lives.
Inspired by the festival’s theme—in particular, the word Like—the festival’s identity draws visual cues from Instagram feeds and its Explore tab. Its design presents the contemporary reality of image consumption and questions the way we consume images—typically flicked through with a swipe—while remaining hopeful that we can still be deeply moved by the ones that speak personally to our shared experiences.
